Ha’aheo 95 Girls Team takes second place in Hawaii State Cup and qualifies for USYSA Far West Regional Tournament

The Ha’aheo  95 Girls
(U-13 Division) captured second place in the 2008 US Youth Soccer Association (HYSA) Youth Soccer Hawaii State Cup held at the Waipio Soccer Complex on Oahu. By winning the runner up medal the 95 Ha’aheo team has qualified for the USYSA Far West Regional which will be held on Oahu June 16-21 on Oahu. State USYSA Championship teams from California, Washington, Hawaii, New Mexico, Arizona, Idaho, Oregon, Utah and Nevada will be competing. Ha’aheo is made up of players from the Big Island and the players are primarily from the Hilo and Kona areas. The Ha’aheo team has practiced and played together for several months to prepare
for the tournament and have made lifetime friendships with one another.
At the Hawaii State Cup Ha’aheo won their pool by defeating Leeward Soccer Club 95,  4-0, and Ho'okahi 95, 4-1.   Ha’aheo played Leahi Premier in the championship and fought Leahi to a tough 0 -3 loss. According to a team spokesperson; "Despite Ha’aheo's loss in the finals the Ha’aheo girls were able to hold the Leahi Premier team at 1 goal going into half time." "The defensive team, worked real hard and every other team member contributed to Ha’aheo not losing their confidence."

Leahi Soccer club is the HYSA organization US Olympic Soccer Star and Hawaii phenom Natasha Kai heralds from. Hawaii High School State Champion Kamehameha-Kapalama girls soccer coach Michele Nagamine also is a coach for the well respected Leahi soccer club of Oahu.
   Ha’aheo 95 is coached by Dave Mena, and assisted by Tara Broad, and Joe Pries. Other notable soccer clubs in the tournament included; Rush, Real, Ka" Oi, and the Honolulu Bulls.

Hawaii International Cup Success

July 5, 2008: The Honolulu Bulls 14U (94) captured the 15th Hawaii International Cup soccer 14U title on Oahu. The team was represented by four Big Island HYSA members: Gabby Yates, Tracee Fukunaga, Teisha Nacis, McKenzie Davidson. The Hawaii International Cup is one of the largest soccer events  in Hawaii and attracts teams as far as Asia, Canada, Europe and the continental US.

The 14U Bulls recorded victories over Real (1-0), Kauai Gurlz (2-1), Kolohe (10-0)), and Avalanche (6-0). It was the the third year in a row that the 94 Bulls have won a title in the prestigous tournament.

Vipers Finish Runner Up In Futsal League
The Vipers finished runner-up in the recent Middle School Futsal League indoor soccer season. The league was sponsored by Hawaii Warrior Athletics. The team is comprised of, left to right, front row: Lorrin Pajimola, Dane Miyata, Shannon McWilliams and Bula Moke Rabang; middle row: coach Jinne Kerr, Isaiah Laeha, Jonah Kenll, Sequo Kerr, Dominik Pajimola, Nakaiya Kerr, Jeff Walker and coach Peter Kerr.


Hawaii Soccer Tournaments
400 Teams Expected To Invade Oahu
March 5, 2008: Oahu and the Waipio Soccer Peninsula will be the sight of two major youth soccer events this summer. Over 400 teams are expected to boost Hawaii's economy as the USYSA and AYSO Soccer Organizations plan their major tournaments to be on Oahu. The 2008 USYSA will be holding their Far West Regional in June with some of the most competitive club soccer teams from California, New Mexico, Hawaii, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Arizona. The USYSA is a qualifier to the USYSA National Championship. Teams coming to the USYSA are State qualifiers and state champions from their respective states. According to a HYSA spokesman the Far West Regional has hosted several high quality teams including some of the top organizations from California like the San Diego Surf Soccer Club. 

AYSO will also be invading Oahu in July as the 2008 AYSO National Championships will be held at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex. There are close to 200 teams expected to travel to Hawaii for that event. Hawaii soccer fans will see some of the best talent in the US at the youth age for this summer

Ha'aheo Soccer Director Completes Prestigous Coaching License

Mr. Dave Mena, Director of Coaching for Ha’aheo Soccer Club (Hilo, Hawaii), has completed his United States Soccer Federation (USSF) B Coaching License course and has recently been accredited with this designation.  Mena was joined by three other Hawaii coaches Mr. Christian Marston (Kauai), Mr. Sean Richardson, Director of Coaching for REAL Hawaii Soccer Club (Oahu), and Mr. Derick Kato, UH at Manoa Wahine Soccer Assistant Coach (Oahu).

The USSF National B Coaching License allows a person to enter the college ranks of coaching and other high levels of competition.  The A License will allow the person to coach at the professional level (MLS) or National Level.


Only thirty six coaches from the United States and other countries were permitted to take this course. It was held at the Home Depot Center, Carson California from March 24 – April 1, 2007.
