Holschuh Named 2007 BIIF Player of The Year

By HawaiiSportsPage.Com
January 27, 2007: Lavinia Holshchuh who led Kohala (9-3) to the regular season Division II Championship was selected by the BIIF coaches at a BIIF Girls Softball Selection meeting held in Kohala. Holshchuh a junior had an outstanding ERA of 1.91 and struck out 63 batters in 66 innings and allowed only 37 hits all season as a pitcher. She also led Kohala in 2006 as a Sophomore earning second team and being a Division II league leading pitcher. Kohala defeated Kamehameha-Hawaii twice in regular season in what many considered a monumental achievement for the small rural school. The main reason for those two wins were the pitching by Holschuh. The BIIF combined Division I and Division II teams for the 2007 all selection teams because of limited number of teams and players. Six Division II players were selected to the first team while three Division I players were chosen for the first team. Seven Division II players were chosen for the second team while seven Division I players were chosen for the second team. Stan Gonsalves of Kohala was named coach of the year as voted by his coaching peers. Gonsalves has led Kohala to two back to back HHSAA tournament berths, and the 2007 regular season championship.
