BIIF Girls Contributing To Humboldt |
| Three Former BIIF Players Contributing To Humboldt
By HawaiiSportsPage.com December 4, 2007: BIIF Girls Soccer players are the hottest commodity for college soccer programs. Many former players just finished the 2007 season at various colleges on the mainland and Hawaii. Bethel College in Indiana had a pipeline to the BIIF girl's soccer players and has had as many as five girls on their roster in one season. Now there is a West Coast California Division II team that have three freshmen from the BIIF.
Humboldt University which is located in Arcata California and plays in the California Collegiate Athletic Association has given the BIIF girls an opportunity to show the college soccer world what quality players the BIIF has. Coach Andy Cumbo says, "All three girls are hardworking, extremely coacheable, and excellent team players." The three girls are Tamlyn Tsubota and Rebekah Chmura of Hawaii Preparatory Academy and LeAnna Dahl of Konawaena. All three girls were 2007 All BIIF Selections.
Chmura and Tsubota helped HPA capture the BIIF DII Title last year for coach Steve Perry while LeAnna Dahl helped the Konawaena Wildcats capture the DI title. All three players went to Oahu in 2007 for the HHSAA DI and DII Championships and represented the BIIF very well. Tsubota and Dahl grew up together as youngsters and are still friends till today. That bond has kept them together along with Chmura as a unit in a different foreign environment. Dahl likes the campus and had this to share regarding her experience.
“I really like being at Humboldt State in Arcata because of the laid back atmosphere makes me feel right at home.” “It's a beautiful campus surrounded by huge redwoods and the ocean isn't far away at all.”
“The three of us Hawaii girls are close and always enjoy hanging out and talking about things from home." " We always share the goodies we get in care packages from home and even got together for chicken katsu and laulau.” “I didn't know how much I would miss rice until recently. All the other girls think rice in the morning is weird or rice and how I would rather have steak in rice instead of steak and potatoes.” “Although dorm life can get old, I do enjoy being there for my first year. I've made so many friends in my dorm and I can always find someone to hang out with. My roommate is also on the team and I consider myself lucky for that because we're on the same schedule with waking up and going to practice and class.” Coach Cumbo says, "Tamlyn Tsubota is a fierce defender and a major contributor for us this year." 'She started every game and was a huge part of our defense. This spring we will be working on enhancing her offensive contribution to the team. "
Konawaena LeAnna Dahl got these comments from Cumbo, " Le came in as a defender but made more impact for us at an attacking role." "She played on the wing for us and began in the starting lineup towards the second half of the season." "She has a nose for the goal and has made a lot of improvement this year."
Cumbo went on to comment about Chmura, "Becca continually made improvement as the year progressed." With a little bit more game experience, she will become more effective in the midfield." "The center of the park is a lot faster and aggressive at the college level rather than high school." "It is a difficult adjustment to make, but soon she will be very helpful to our midfield."
With Charminade University, Hawaii Pacific University and University of Hawaii-Hilo Programs recently starting, the opportunity for BIIF Girls Soccer players are tremendous. The youth leagues and Club soccer organizations are doing a great job. Andy Cumbo says the three Hawaii Players, "Get down to business and have a tremendous work rate and a desire to succeed." | |
