Punahou Captures Team and Individual Titles

May 14, 2008: At Wailua Golf Course on Kauai, Punahou captured the team and individual Boy’s Golf HHSAA Championships. Punahou had a total of 294 to place first in front of Iolani (309), and Baldwin (312). Waiakea of the BIIF finished tied for fourth at 321 while Kamehameha-Hawaii came in 12th.

Punahou senior Alex Ching took the individual championship with a two round total of 145. Senior John Nako of Iolani finished with 148 to claim runner up. Baldwin sophomore Justin Kelly shot a two day total of 148 to take third. Waiakea junior Matt Kitamori shot a 149 to claim 6th. Other BIIF golfers finishing in the top 20 included Nainoa Calip-Kamehameha-HI (157), Ty Yamashita-Waiakea (158), and Dalen Yamuchi-Waiakea (158).

Nainoa Calip Captures 2008 BIIF Title

April 29, 2008: Nainoa Calip of Kamehameha shot a final round 76 to win the 2008 BIIF Boys Golf Championship at the Club of Hokulia Golf Course. Calip finished the tournament with a 225 total for the three round event. Daniel Koge of Waiakea finished runner up also with a final round of 76 and had a 233 total. Waiakea's freshman sensation Dalen Yamauchi who shot the best first day 75 finished third with a 236 three round total.

BIIF Boys Golfers Finish First And Third

May 16, 2007: Sean Maekawa of Honokaa took the 2007 HHSAA Boys individual golf title yesterday at Waikoloa. Maekawa shot a low round of 68 to finish at 135 for the two day event four strokes ahead of Kamehameha-Oahu TJ Kua. Kua a junior shot a final round of 72 to finish at 139. Promosing Sophomore Pono Calip another BIIF golfer from Kamehameha-Hawaii finished third with a second round 72 to finish 143. Other BIIF golfers to finish in the top 10 include Henry Park of Waiakea (5th) 146, Max Bonk of HPA (8th) 148, and Kent Graham of HPA (10th) 148.


 



 


Waiakea Places 4th in Boys States

May 16, 2007: Waiakea High School finished fourth place in the team competition at the David Ishii Foundation HHSAA Boys Golf Championships at the Kings Course in Waikoloa. Kamehameha-Kapalama finished first with a total of 292 edging Punahou by one stroke (291). Maryknoll placed third with a final score of 302 with Waiakea finishing at 309.

BIIF Kamehameha-Hawaii finished in 7th Place with a score of 317.

Sean Maekawa Grips Fourth BIIF Title

Honokaa senior made it four in a row as he captured the BIIF Boys Golf Chamiponship on Tuesday, May 2. It was an exclamation on one of the most successful BIIF prep careers. Maekawa out distanced himself from runner up Henry Park of Waiakea and Max Bonk of Hawaii Prep.  Maekawa finished the BIIF Championship shooting a 2 under par 70. However he was down as much as two strokes earlier in the day. Maekawa finished four strokes ahead of Park and  Bonk with a total 216. Park and Bonk finished tied for second for the tournament with a total score of 220. Pono Calip Finished third with a 223.
